Black Warrior Review

The Black Warrior Review is a nationally recognized literary magazine edited by the English Department’s graduate students, largely those involved in the MFA program. The poems and stories published in the BWR have been written by emerging and widely recognized authors, and have been reprinted in the Pushcart Prize, Best American Stories and Poems, and New Stories from the South anthologies.

Marr’s Field Journal

Marr’s Field Journal is edited by undergraduates interested in and involved with writing and art. The journal includes poetry, prose, and artwork written and created by University of Alabama undergraduates. An attractive e-zine filled with quality work, the release of a new issue is always a noted event.

Dewpoint

Dewpoint is an annual publication of the Phi Xi chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, the international English Honor Society at The University of Alabama. Dewpoint accepts submissions from undergraduates of any major at UA. Its submission process includes a combination of professor nominations, student solicitations, and unsolicited submissions. Submissions are accepted year-round at dewpointmag@gmail.com.

Ripple Arts Review

Ripple Arts Review is a digital magazine for arts criticism and journalism in West Alabama. A student-led, -written, and designed publication, Ripple aims to publish critical work that contributes to the cultural dialogue of the area and serve as a digital collective space for the local arts community. As a teaching magazine centering developing authors and critics, Ripple employs a collaborative, double-open peer review process.

Victorians Institute Journal

The Victorians Institute Journal is an award-winning, refereed scholarly journal that publishes articles, reviews, and newly edited texts of interest to scholars in Victorian and Edwardian literary and cultural studies. The Victorians Institute Journal welcomes innovative submissions that contribute to any aspect of Victorian and Edwardian literary and cultural studies in the twenty-first century.

Departmental Symposia

The English Department holds a biennial symposium focusing on literature, race, ethnicity, and other topics. Each symposium features a variety of distinguished guests—writers, professors, journalists, and others well recognized in their fields—who speak and lead discussions during the course of the three-day event. Several book volumes have been published based on papers given during the departmental symposia.
