In the fall of 2004, I joined the department of English at The University of Alabama after teaching at both the secondary and post secondary levels of education. In the summer of 2009, I joined the faculty of the UA Early College,a program which provides high school juniors and seniors with the opportunity to earn college credit while still in high school.Additionally, I am currently a doctoral student in the College of Education's Curriculum and Instruction program.

My experience includes teaching high school English and computer science, implementing a federal grant program for at-risk students, and teaching freshman composition and both American and English literature at the college level.

An alumna of Troy University, I graduated with a master’s degree in English Education.

Previously, I have served as a faculty representative for the University of Alabama’s Student Government Association’s Election Board and as the faculty sponsor for the Asian-American Club and the DifferENT Club.

My civic activities include serving as president of the Englewood Elementary Parent-Teacher-Student Organization’s Executive Board, and as president of the Hillcrest Middle School Parent-Teacher-Student Organization’s Executive Board. In addition, I have also served as a board member for the local Boy Scouts of America.

My professional memberships include the National Council for Teachers of English and the Sloan Consortium, an organization committed to quality online education.

Originally from Dothan, Alabama, my family and I moved to Tuscaloosa, Alabama in 1998. I am married to Elliot Schwartz, an anesthetist, and we have two children, Tiffany Schwartz Miller and Ben Schwartz. We are also the doting grandparents of our granddaughters, Cameron and Brooklyn.

My other joys in life are my pets: two Bichon Frises, Jack and Lily; and two English bulldogs, Lola and Mojo. I also love Alabama football, gardening and traveling, and most importantly, I love teaching at The University of Alabama. Roll Tide!
