Brooke Champagne was born and raised in New Orleans, LA and now writes and teaches in Tuscaloosa, AL. She is Assistant Director of First-Year Writing at UA, and recently presented on the role of creative nonfiction in the FWP classroom at the NonfictioNow Conference in Reykjavik, Iceland.  For the past four years, she and and her composition students have participated in a writing/cultural collaboration with students at the University of San Geronimo in Havana, Cuba, where she also co-directed a Study Abroad program in May 2015.  In 2017 she won the English department's Outstanding Teaching Award by an Instructor.  Her writing appears in Los Angeles Review, New Ohio Review, Louisiana Literature, Full Grown People, and Bending Genre, among other journals.  She is at work on her first collection of personal essays.
