Claire M. L. Bourne Presents: Bookwork and Englishness: The Case of William Shakespeare
English Building 301This talk considers the intersection of bookwork with editorial practice in the literary canonization of Shakespeare and, more specifically, in efforts to claim his corpus as uniquely English. At various key moments in editorial history, innovations in page design were combined with choice of typeface and bespoke paper to generate book objects that, in and of themselves, asserted Shakespeare’s English identity.
