The English department provides its undergraduates with a wide and engaging range of courses to choose from throughout their academic career. From First-Year Writing and digital writing to courses in creative writing, the study of English, American and World literatures, as well as advanced level seminars which provide a more in-depth look at subjects particular to a student’s interest, the large number of course offerings taught by the Department’s knowledgeable faculty most often leaves its students wanting to take more classes, rather than wanting for classes to take.
Course Availability
We offer many sections of 100- and 200-level English courses every semester. Please consult the listings on myBama to see the schedules and availability of these courses.

Advising
The English Department advises all undergraduate students majoring in English. We are also more than happy to advise all our minors in creative writing, English, professional writing, linguistics, and world literature. If English is your major, you will receive an email with all necessary information from our undergraduate coordinator and your advisor during our advising seasons, which begin in early October and in early March. Students who have English as a secondary major are also more than welcome to request an advising appointment. For any specific questions regarding First-Year Writing, please visit our First-Year Writing Program. For any specific questions regarding our creative writing minor, please contact Dr. Paul Albano (ppalbano@ua.edu). For any specific questions regarding our linguistics minor, please contact Dr. Robert Poole (repoole@ua.edu). For any specific questions regarding our world literature minor, please contact Dr. Emily Wittman (ewittman@as.ua.edu). For any additional undergraduate advising questions and questions outside of our advising seasons, please feel free to get in touch with our Director of Undergraduate Studies, Dan Novak (danovak1@ua.edu) or our Assistant Director of Undergraduate Studies, Serena Blount (bloun002@ua.edu). We are here to help.
